  • June 19-21 — Harry Chapin — Cat’s in the Cradle: The Song That Changed Our Lives

    The Cinema Arts Centre (423 Park Avenue, Huntington) will present Harry Chapin – Cat’s in the Cradle: The Song That Changed Our Lives on: Friday, June 19, at 4:45pm; Saturday, June 20, at 7pm;
    Sunday, June 21, at 4:45pm. The film tells the story of one of the most emotionally resonant songs in American history and the complex, charismatic artist behind it, Harry Chapin – who lived in Huntington with his family. Released in 1974, “Cat’s in the Cradle” became an unexpected radio chart-topper, cutting through a disco-dominated era with a haunting folk ballad about fatherhood, regret, and the passage of time. Fifty years later, the song’s impact is undiminished. Using a blend of archival footage, performance clips, and interviews with Chapin’s family, bandmates, and a range of musicians and public figures that include Harry’s wife, Sandy Chapin, Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Judy Collins, Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Darryl McDaniels (Run-DMC), Mandy Patinkin, Robert Lamm (Chicago), Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe) and more, Harry Chapin – Cat’s in the Cradle: The Song That Changed Our Lives traces Harry’s rise – from his breakout single “Taxi” in 1972, through the whirlwind years of touring and recording that followed the success of “Cat’s in the Cradle.” More than just a biography of an artist, the film is also a meditation on the enduring power of a song that has become part of the emotional vocabulary of generations. (The film runs 94 minutes.)

    Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Cinema or online via its website: cinemaartscentre.org.
