NorthShore Original Open Mic (NOOM) 10-Year Anniversary Celebration!
August 30, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Kirsten Maxwell is the featured performing songwriter when the NorthShore Original Open Mic (NOOM) celebrates its tenth anniversary on Wednesday, August 30 from 7-10 p.m. in the Sky Room at the Cinema Arts Centre (423 Park Avenue, Huntington). A $20 admission fee, payable in cash, will be collected at the door for this special event — with a significant part of the evening’s proceeds going to the nonprofit arthouse theater in appreciation for its hosting and co-presenting NOOM with the Folk Music Society of Huntington three Wednesdays each month.
Kirsten Maxwell, who grew up in Huntington and began her career as a performing songwriter here, is making the trip up from the Carolinas to share her songs that evening. A supporter of NOOM since its inception at Cafe Portofino in Northport, she has performed for audiences across the U.S. and has earned numerous accolades & awards. She has won performing songwriter contests in Florida and Rhode Island, was a Falcon Ridge Folk Festival “Most Wanted” artist, was named as a finalist in the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Competition, and has had juried official showcases at several Folk Alliance International regional conferences.
The evening’s festivities begin at 7 p.m. with introductory remarks and some surprises. Kirsten performs from 7:30-8:20 or thereabouts, followed by an open mic from 8:30- 10pm. The snack bar will be open for drinks and snacks.
