DESCRIPTION:Several dozen of Long Island’s top folk and rock musicians will take to the stage in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on Monday\, July 23 to once again fill the air with the music of Harry Chapin\, the late singer\, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and social activist at the annual “Just Wild About Harry” tribute concert. The Folk Music Society of Huntington is pleased to again be a cultural partner and in-kind co-sponsor of this concert.\nSlated to begin at 7:30 p.m.\, the free show will feature 17 acts — including concert organizer Stuart Markus and his group Gathering Time — performing such Chapin classics as “Taxi” and “Cat’s in the Cradle\,” plus many lesser hits and fan favorites like “Flowers Are Red” and “The Rock.”  \nConcertgoers are asked to bring donations of nonperishable food to support Long Island Cares\, Inc.\, the regional food bank and humanitarian organization founded by Chapin in 1980. “The annual Harry Chapin Tribute Concert in Eisenhower Park is always a very special event for all of us at Long Island Cares because so many of Harry’s fans attend and are extremely supportive of Long Island Cares and the work we do to assist the more than 316\,000 Long Islanders struggling with domestic hunger and high food insecurity\,” said Paule Pachter\, the nonprofit organization’s chief executive officer. “It’s hard to believe it’s been 37 years since Harry’s untimely passing. Stuart Markus and the other talented performers featured have been keeping Harry’s musical legacy very much alive on Long Island for so many years.”  \nBesides Gathering Time\, this year’s artist roster includes newcomers Toby Tobias\, Robinson Treacher\, and Mike Barry; as well as “Just Wild About Harry” veterans Frank Walker & Robin Eve\, Grand Folk Railroad\, Friends on the Journey\, Robin Greenstein\, Sid Cherry & Helene Schreier Pandal\, Patricia Shih\, MediaCrime\, Karen Bella\, Christine Solimeno\, Jerry DeMeo\, Debra Lynne & Melanie Fink\, and Joe Iadanza\, “I’m always very happy to be able to bring in some new talent I’ve had my eye on for the past couple of years\, and to welcome back people who have been in and out over the years\,” Markus said.  \nLong Island Cares’ staff and volunteers will be collecting donations of non-perishable food at a tent at the entrance to The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre. They also will be selling tee shirts and Harry Chapin CDs and distributing literature about the nonprofit organization’s programs and services.  \nGuests should bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blankets to the park\, which is located off Merrick and Stewart Avenues in East Meadow.
