Special Event

Every year, members of the FMSH contribute their varied and impressive talents to produce a very special concert.

This year we had a wide variety of our gifted member local artists who showed us their talents. The outstanding group of star artists for this year's concert were (listed in performance order):

Kevin McLeod Kevin McLeod
Kevin has performed at our open mics and is a great talent. Check out his web site.
James O'Malley James O'Malley
James is no stranger to the Folk Music Society. He is one of Long Island's premier singer-songwriters and is a fantastic talent. Visit his web site for his schedules and CD purchases.
Paul Helou Paul Helou
Paul is a singer of original songs for adults and children. He has won a national award for the best bluegrass song at the Walnut Valley Festival in Kansas. In addition, he has just released a CD called Bees and Butterflies. More information on his web site.
Dave Waxman Dave Waxman
Dave is one of the regulars at the monthly Jam Sessions at the Huntington Library. He will be running the jam session at the Folk Festival in Heckscher Park on August 12. A devotee of John Prine songs, he is an example of the membership talent we have.

Frank Cavalone, Lynn Smith and Bob Young have been coming to the Jam Sessions for some time and have demonstrated great musicianship. They performed their own songs.

Bob Westcott has hosted our Holiday Concert for many years and is a great performer in his own right. Tonight he performed with a new group with Mike DeGeronimo on drums and Larry Hunter on electric guitar.

Hank Stone Hank Stone
Hank is no stranger to the folk music scene on Long Island. You can check out his web site and his CD called Rough Folk. A great talent.
Denise Romas Denise Romas
Denise is featured in the Lonesome Traveler show, which has been performed at libraries and other venues for several years. She also has a single CD entitled A Healing Angel which is a musical greeting card, and she treated us to the title song tonight. She has a great voice and is a great performer. Visit her web site.
Bill Goldsmith Bill Goldsmith
Bill has performered at many open mics at the Folk Music Society and has CDs for sale. He performed songs from them, and was accompanied on one by The Tone.
Bob Campbell Bob Campbell
Bob is a member of the Island Songwriters Showcase and has a reputation as a writer of progressive songs, political observation and social commentary. He is working on a CD of original songs in the folk and acoustic vein.

The performances tonight were ascendant — each one better than the last, and every one incomparable, unique and superlative — a perfect balanced program!
