David Massengill

Nov 2, 1996

To a full house, David sang his original songs, allegories, and ballads of contemporary life, accompanying himself on mountain dulcimer and guitar. His songs have so authentic a feel that they have been assumed to be traditional, to which David felt honored (while longing for his lost royalties). He told other wonderful stories in his warm southern drawl with a hint of courtly manners of a vanished time, stories of his Tennessee boyhood and stories that define the sharp edge of real characters, like fabled dulcimer maker Edsel Martin.

At this concert, he used a new custom Scott MacDonald dulcimer. David is the winner of the 1992 New York Music Awards Best Album, and was also a 1989 Kerrville New Folk winner.
