BOB WESTCOTT'S 14th ANNUAL
To celebrate the Holiday season, our favorite legendary guitarist and singer-songwriter, Bob Westcott, brought his annual revue of talented performers to Huntington. He treated us with a couple of well roasted chestnuts, and then presented his showcase of some of the most talented and exciting performers in the Huntington area. This years' lineup featured:
CECILIA KIRTLAND Cecilia's songs encompass a wide spectrum of emotions from lighthearted-and-hopeful to sultry blues or quiet heartbreak. A veteran of the L.I. music scene, Cecilia has presented her songs as a solo performer and also as the leader of an electric/acoustic band. Her sweet voice, gracious stage demeanor and infectious smile delighted our audience.
MARTHA TRACHTENBERG Martha Trachtenberg is a founding member of the Buffalo Gals, the first all-female bluegrass band, and her solo for Folger's Coffee brought calls from friends and fans across the country who recognized her distinctive voice magic. But lately her reputation has exploded with her new recordings and songs like the great It's About Time.
The YA YAs A Huntington-based acoustic trio comprised of three longtime friends, they have been delighting audiences with their vibrant and original performances in many area coffeehouses, pubs and small concert venues since 1998. Their original material, showcasing their considerable talent, exquisite melodies, and intelligent lyrics were universally acclaimed.
Singer Catherine Miles' vocal style is simultaneously voluptuous and ethereal, drawing the listener into the full emotion of the stories she sings. Guitarist Jay Mafale and keyboard player Paul Silverman deftly weave their voices and instruments together in a richness that belies the fact that there are only two instruments in the band. The YA YAs were originally noted for their high-energy covers of familiar works; however, more recently they have been performing original material, showcasing their considerable talent, exquisite melodies, and intelligent lyrics.
This evening was a big treat and gave all a merry beginning to the holiday season!
