an original twist on delta blues

Danielle Miraglia is a captivating performer, who so impressed a standing-room-only crowd when she played the Hard Luck Café three years ago, that we just had to invite her back.

DANIELLE MIRAGLIAA  strong, steady thumb on an old Gibson guitar is the driving force behind this Boston area-based artist’s delta blues-influenced guitar style. Add a raw, powerful, whiskey-tinged voice, and one might be tempted to label her a blues artist.

But while Miraglia’s style pays homage to these blues traditions, her classic rock verve, catchy melodies and eclectic array of song subjects give it an original twist that is all her own. The 2009 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest’s northeast regional first-place winner, Miraglia has performed in several juried showcases during recent Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Conferences.

a trio of friends

Rough Folk is a Long Island-based trio comprised of longtime friends Hank Stone, Todd Evans and Mike Christian.

HANK STONEIt’s no surprise that Hank Stone has been hailed as one of Long Island’s best songwriters. His memorable hooks and melodies, “two notes and you know it’s Hank” guitar style and uncanny ability to tell a story with a song make the emotional impact of his music both immediate and compelling.

TODD EVANSGenre-hopping guitarist/vocalist Todd Evans brings on the spice and hot sauce with a style that combines jazz, swing and world music textures. His eclectic song choices and rich baritone voice provide the perfect “ying” to Hank’s self-penned “yang.”

MIKE CHRISTIANMulti talented multi-instrumentalist Mike Christian is the groups’ wild card. Switching seamlessly between electric bass, Ashbory (rubber string) bass and a one-of-a-kind suitcase drum kit, Mike gives the group its drive and energy along with a healthy dose of folk flavored funk.

Together, Hank, Todd and Mike have found synergy – the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts. So come out to hear them sing songs of love and loss... of despair and hope... of railroads and sailing ships...
