Connecticut State Troubadour 2009-2010

L.ara Herscovitch is an engaging contemporary singer-songwriter with a voice “clear and smooth like expensive liquor” (Northeast Performer). Her music blends acoustic folk with pop, jazz, blues and Latin influences.

LARA HERSCOVITCHHailed as “a remarkable performer” on WSHU’s Profiles in Folk, Lara has showcased at the International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, and been a finalist in a number of singer-songwriter competitions. Josh Joffen is a Long Island-based singer-songwriter whose songs are, by turns, rousing, funny, poetic and insightful — blending modern and traditional folk and jazz influences in a rich palette of guitar voicings and open tunings.

His songs have been featured in Fast Folk Musical Magazine, recorded by Gathering Time and Mike Agranoff, and covered by others. Josh’s new CD, Postcard From Antigua, is a lyrical travelogue with songs set in the Caribbean, the Middle East and his own New York.

Josh debuted songs from the album as an invited performer in the Suzi Wollenberg Folk DJ Showcase during the 2010 Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference this past November and at a CD release concert earlier this year during LI’s Garden Stage concert series. “Most artists paint pictures with a brush; Josh Joffen paints beautiful pictures with his lyrics and his music,” says Garden Stage’s Joanne Melosh Dezego.

Praises from others:

    “Beautiful melodies and compelling lyrics”
