Series: 1st Saturday Concerts
Susan Werner has never been one to adhere to just one musical style. A gifted singer-songwriter, who accompanies herself on both guitar and piano, she is known for her musical versatility and for her witty repartee during live performances. The classically trained and jazz-inspired Iowa native, who now calls Chicago home, has been delighting concert and festival audiences for two decades.
She composes skillful songs that effortlessly slide between folk, jazz, and pop – all delivered with sassy wit and classic Midwestern charm.
Throughout her expansive career, boundless versatility has emerged as a hallmark of Werner’s talent, and has proven to be a quintessential ingredient of her engrossing musical persona.
“… a triply blessed artist who sings adroitly, plays the piano smartly and, best of all, writes songs of genuine distinction and high craft.” – Chicago Tribune
“It’s not enough to say she’s a brilliant, spectacular performer. She is pure genius in capturing the human experience and setting it to music. She’s also a chameleon, slipping seamlessly between cabaret, folk, gospel, classical and the blues.” – Source Media Group
Susan will perform one extended set beginning at 8:45 PM. A 15-minute refreshment break will follow the Open Mic.
